My names is Gustavo, I’m twelve years old, I study at Bom Jesus Água Verde, I’m from curitiba, I like to play handball , video games and computer , my favorite books are Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter , my favorite musics are inevitavel , irreversivel, um minuto para o fim do mundo , pump it and etc...My favorite animal is tiger, my favorite movies are Harry Potter, Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. On the weekends I like to play video games.

VERMONT

A new Dynstar I class opened today, discussing the state of Vermont. The name of the state in French means green mountain (Vert Mont).
Vermont is almost the smallest state in terms of population of any other US state, it has the least populated capital: Montpelier.
The state has a large Quebec French influence and several people in the Northern part of the state still speak Quebec French.

Some famous people were born there: Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon church, John Deer, one of the inventor of the tractor, Calvin Coolidge, the only American president born on the 4th of July! Montpellier is the only US capital without a Mc Donald restaurant.

The state is beautiful especially in the fall when the trees turn different colors (the state tree is the sugar mapple tree) , in the winter when the snow blanket the State (great skying on Jay´s Peak), in the spring when the landscape turns green and millions of flowers bloom and finally in the summer when you discover the beauty of the back country by hiking its hills and valleys.

CHOCOLATE CHIPS COOKIES

ON THURSDAY WE MADE COOKIES!!!

CHOCOLATE CHIPS COOKIES

Ingredients:

1 ½ c. butter, softened

1 ¼ c. white sugar

1 ¼ c. brown sugar1 T. Nielsen-Massey Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla

2 eggs

4 c. all-purpose flour

2 tsp. baking soda

1 ¾ tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. cream of tartar

1-12 oz. pkg. semisweet chocolate chips. (2 c.)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, sugars, vanilla and eggs in large bowl. Stir in flour, soda, salt, baking powder and cream of tartar. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop with a #40 scoop (looks like a metal mini ice cream scoop) or a rounded measuring tablespoonful about 2 inches apart onto an ungreased insulated baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly: remove from baking sheet. Cool on wire rack. Makes about 4 dozen crackly, chewy-crispy bakery-style cookies. They are wonderful!

Tess of the d’Urbervilles

O autor de Tess of the d’Urbervilles, Thomas Hardy, nasceu em 02 de junho de 1840 em uma região rural da Inglaterra, Dorset. Por vários anos Hardy permaneceu um autor obscuro até a publicação de Far from the Madding Crowd em 1874 e, finalmente, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, publicado em 1891, garantiu de vez o seu futuro financeiro. Esta novela, seguida de Jude the Obscure (1895) trouxe-lhe fama e conforto, mas também muitos aborrecimentos por parte da sociedade conservadora da época.
Tess of the d’Urbervilles, a mais famosa de suas novelas, foi levada ao cinema por Roman Polanski em 1979 com Nastassja Kinski no papel de Tess Durbeyfield, a personagem principal. Esta é a história de uma bela moça de família simples, vítima das circunstâncias, da moral cristã e vitoriana e do próprio encanto. O pai, Mr. John Durbeyfield não tem muito senso de responsabilidade, prefere beber a trabalhar ou se dedicar à família. Um dia esse homem descobre, por acaso, que descende de uma família nobre, os d’Urbervilles, corre para o pub contar a novidade aos amigos e ali ouve dizer que há uma senhora d’Ubervilles muita rica, vivendo em mansão, não muito longe de Marlott que é onde vive Tess e os seus. Mr. John e esposa, Mrs. Joan Durbeyfield, enviam Tess a essa senhora com a missão de pedir-lhe ajuda financeira. É aí que os verdadeiros problemas de Tess começam, exatamente onde Alec d’Urberville entra na história. Este que ele supõe ser seu primo, na realidade não o é, o pai de Alec juntou uma grande fortuna, mas faltava-lhe um nome nobre, ele pesquisou a história de algumas famílias e decidiu tomar este nome de ‘empréstimo’ para dar uma ‘envernizada’ no passado. Tess é seduzida, nos termos de hoje diríamos violentada, por Alec e perde o único valor que uma mulher tinha na época, a honra. Ela segue até o fim pagando por um crime que não cometeu, muito ao contrário, foi vítima.
Algum tempo depois Tess encontra Angel, um dos personagens mais interessantes do romance, um livre pensador, um homem que abandona as certezas e o caminho traçado pelo pai para seguir fiel a si mesmo, respeitando o seu próprio modo de ver o mundo. Nem mesmo Angel com o seu refinamento e sua bondade consegue entender e aceitar o drama de Tess, ou melhor, precisa deixar o seu meio, vir ao Brasil e quebrar a cara, para voltar arrependido quando já era tarde demais.
Thomas Hardy trata principalmente desta hipocrisia da moral cristã, da dominação masculina, das injustiças da era vitoriana ligadas à idéia de classe social e da confusão e mudanças que ocorriam nessa época. Os D´Urbervilles tinham um nome nobre, mas era só, a família de Alec tinha dinheiro, mas eram vulgares e tentaram resolver a questão usurpando um nome.

As controvérsias envolvendo Tess of the d’Urbervilles e Jude the Obscure desaninaram Hardy que abandonou as novelas e passou a se dedicar inteiramente à poesia.

This movie is based on author Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name, and stars the always-interesting Jack Nicholson.

PLOT:A nice man, his wife and young boy, take on the task of overlooking a winter resort during its off season. The nice man is there for peace and quiet, as his profession as a writer requires just that. The boy has a special skill called "the shine" which allows him to hear and see things that others cannot. As their time in the grand hotel ticks away, the mansion begins to exude thoughts of the past and chills of the present. In time, the nice man transforms into a "not-so-nice" man, and begins to terrify his own flesh and blood.

CRITIQUE:Chilling, majestic piece of cinematic fright, this film combines all the great elements of an intellectual thriller, with the grand vision of a director who has the instinctual capacity to pace a moody horror flick within the realm of his filmmaking genius that includes an eye for the original shot, an ice-cold soundtrack and an overall sense of dehumanization. This movie cuts through all the typical horror movies like a red-poker through a human eye, as it allows the viewer to not only feel the violence and psychosis of its protagonist, but appreciate the seed from which the derangement stems. One of the scariest things for people to face is the unknown and this film presents its plotting with just that thought in mind. The setting is perfect, in a desolate winter hideaway. The quietness of the moment is a character in itself, as the fermenting aggressor in Jack Torrance's mind wallows in this idle time, and breeds the devil's new playground. I always felt like the presence of evil was dormant in all of our minds, with only the circumstances of the moment, and the reasons given therein, needed to wake its violent ass and pounce over its unsuspecting victims. This film is a perfect example of this very thought.
